Apple VR headset might sport two 8K displays

A virtual reality headset might be Apple's next big thing.

In 2020, Apple manufacturer intends to release a headset that supports both AR and VR. In typical Apple fashion, it will include some advances that might help VR become more popular.

According to reports, the project's codename is T288 and its anticipated debut date is sometime in 2020. According to sources cited by CNET, the headset will feature an 8K display for each eye and be fully independent of a computer or smartphone.

Tim Cook has repeatedly emphasized that augmented reality holds greater promise than virtual reality. ARKit, released by Apple last year, has made iPhone and iPad the most popular AR platforms. Apparently, the company is preparing to launch a significant VR program.

This rumour should be treated with caution because Apple's plans could change between now and 2020.

In the story, Apple's headgear would connect to a special box powered by a processor designed exclusively for the company. Apple's virtual reality headset looks like a PC tower, but it's not a Mac. As opposed to existing VR systems like HTC Vive, you will not be required to set up special cameras to determine your location. Data will be transmitted wirelessly to your headset from Apple's box.
